VM Musicals Audition Packet

Every student is required to attend Audition Day, even if they are not auditioning for a lead role.

During auditions, every child will sing the assigned ensemble selection (either individually or in small groups) so we can get to know their voice and place them in the role that best fits them.

This is a safe, encouraging environment designed to help students become comfortable performing. There is absolutely no pressure, and every student will be cast in the production! We never require a child to sing a solo during auditions if they are uncomfortable doing so.

Performers should prepare one of the provided vocal excerpts from the show for their audition. Access music and practice tracks with vocals. We encourage students to pick the song that feels most comfortable and lets their character shine!

These audition pieces are intentionally short. We are looking for:

• Confidence

• Characterization

• Stage presence

• A willingness to have fun!

Remember, auditions are simply an opportunity for us to get to know each performer and find the role where they will shine.

We understand that not every character has a featured solo or designated audition piece. Please choose the selection that you feel best matches the character your child is most interested in portraying.
